DAYS 2 to 4
Spend your first three nights at a tranquil thatched homestead - Rissington Inn - where you will be offered wonderful hospitality and outstanding cuisine. Situated in HAZYVIEW, just outside KRUGER NATIONAL PARK, this inn is a perfect base for taking game drives in the Park and exploring the natural beauty of the area including Blyde River Canyon and God's Window.
You can also enjoy other locally based activities such as golf, tennis, ballooning, fishing, river rafting and horse riding, or just relax by the pristine pool at the Inn.
Accommodation is in individually designed suites and the menu is innovative South African cuisine combined with an extensive wine list.
DAYS 5 to 7
With a reputation for excellent game viewing including the Big Five, the SABI SAND PRIVATE GAME RESERVE adjoins the KRUGER NATIONAL PARK. Chitwa Chitwa is situated on the bank of the largest lake in the reserve. The lodge consists of eight beautiful 'retreats' with fantastic views of the animals coming to drink at the lake. The suites are decorated and furnished with a stylish and contemporary feel and each has a timber deck in front which also houses a private plunge pool.
Game viewing is from a 4x4 vehicle, driven by a knowledgeable and professional guide. Since the lodge is in its own concession, the only other vehicles you encounter will be those carrying fellow guests.
DAYS 8 to 12
A road transfer will take you over the border into Mozambique and to the capital Maputo from where you will fly by helicopter to the White Pearl Resorts, PONTA MAMOLI. With a pristine beach and ocean frontage of more than 2kms, the lodge nestles in a sheltered bay on MOZAMBIQUE'S LAGOON COAST.
The luxurious suites with their cool, clean lines, contemporary furniture and a palette inspired by the surrounding coastal landscape, are constructed amongst the dunes on timber stilts to take advantage of their beautiful natural setting while protecting the fragile eco-systems beneath them.
As well as snorkelling and scuba diving, deep sea fishing, horse riding and massages are also on offer. But make sure you take time to just enjoy relaxing to the sound of the waves breaking gently.
By helicopter back to Maputo and then fly to Johannesburg for the overnight flight back to London
Just across the border in Botswana, is the largest private game reserve in southern Africa. MASHATU GAME RESERVE, 'Land of Giants', takes its name from the locally revered mashatu tree and is a fitting setting for the world's largest land mammal the elephant along with an excellent mix of other game. Set in one of the least explored and malaria-free regions, Mashatu Camp welcomes children of all ages. Besides the rewarding game viewing from a 4x4 vehicle, the reserve can be explored on foot, on a mountain bike or from the back of one of the beautifully schooled horses. The five hour drive from Johannesburg makes this lovely reserve very accessible.
