Kenyan Safari

The first destination is the Laikipia Plateau where Colin and Rocky Francombe will welcome you to their beautiful home, OL MALO, with its vast views of Africa and down to a waterhole which attracts a variety of animals.

Game drives, walks, horse and camel treks and Samburu cultural visits are on offer.

A short scenic flight takes you further north to the Mathews Mountain range and to KITICH, the remote home of Guilio Bertolli.  The tented accommodation is simple and very traditional with lanterns, a bucket shower and long-drop toilet, but the standard of hospitality, food and wine cellar is outstanding!

The forested valley is alive with birds and butterflies and the highlight of your time here is tracking elephants and other wildlife on foot with Guilio and his Samburu guides.

Fly into the heart of the Maasai Mara Game Reserve where your home will be REKERO, a luxury camp with accommodation in spacious safari tents overlooking the river.  The Maasai guides are not only knowledgable but it is also fascinating to hear them describe their warrior culture and the conflict between their traditions and modern Kenya.

This camp is perfectly located for experiencing the annual spectacle of the migration of wildebeest, zebra and gazelles as they plunge across the crocodile infested river.

Another culture awaits you on the historic Swahili island of Lamu.  At the intimate hotel, PEPONI’S, you can be as active or inactive as you wish.  Each room is individually decorated and has a private area to sit, perfect for enjoying the glorious sea views, while the lovely swimming pool provides a peaceful atmosphere for total relaxation.

Delicious food is cooked to order and there is the opportunity to sample a traditional Swahili dinner, sitting on large, comfortable cushions on the floor with a magnificent brass platter as the ‘table’.

If you get restless, you can explore the narrow streets and markets of the main town or go dinghy sailing, wind surfing, water skiing, snorkelling, scuba diving and fishing.  A sunset dhow cruise will round off a wonderful holiday.
