You need to have a sense of adventure to best appreciate this fascinating country but so long as you are prepared for the odd delayed flight and perhaps a meal that might not be of the highest standard, your tour will reward you with some wonderful experiences.

You will arrive at the capital Antananarivo, known as Tana where a night at the ROYALCredit: Marcus Wilson-Smith PALISSANDRE HOTEL, situated on a hillside near the centre, will allow you the chance to catch a flavour of the city and recover from your journey.

The next day fly southeast to Fort Dauphin and then there is a fascinating drive to the private Berenty Reserve.  Staying at BERENTY LODGE, you will enjoy lemurs from dawn to
                                             dusk!

Small lemurs, tree frogs, chameleons and tenrecs can be found on the island in the lake and you will also walk in the reserve to find the Indri, the largest lemur in Madagascar.  Its haunting cry will remain with you as you travel on.

A scenic drive takes you to Tamatave on the east coast, a pleasant town with fine, palm-lined boulevards and former colonial houses.  Spend the night at the HOTEL NEPTUNE before a flight to Īle Sainte Marie, an island with white sand beaches and tropical vegetation.

Five blissful days at the beautifully run PRINCESSE BORA LODGE, with its splendid location overlooking the coral fringed lagoon, will allow you time to relax and reflect on the wonders you saw on the mainland.  The comfortable, thatched wooden bungalows, excellent cuisine and, should you wish, a selection of activities to choose from, ensure you will return home with wonderful memories!

There are many other areas to explore in Madagascar including Nosy Mangabe in the east for a chance to see the strange aye-aye lemurs and the Avenue of the Baobabs near Morondava in the west.  It is also a very interesting to take a few days driving south from Tana to Tulear on the west coast.  The journey passes through magnificent scenery, with interesting locations for the overnight stays, offering an insight into the Malagascy way of life.
