Move on to LITTLE KULULA, the closest camp to the Namib Naukluft Park gate which will enable you to reach the magnificent Sossusvlei dunes at first light and see them at their best.  The accommodation is in canvas and thatch bungalows with wonderful dune views.

As you start to head north, break your journey at the warm and friendly HANSA HOTEL in the centre of Swakopmund, a refreshing coastal town with an old-world German influence.

Carry on up the coast taking the day to drive via Hentiesbaai and the Cape Cross seal colony and then inland to Twyfelfontein.

With the buildings constructed to blend with the boulder strewn landscape, MOWANI MOUNTAIN CAMP is a haven of hospitality.  A local guide can interpret the amazing rock engravings and lead you in search of the desert elephants which exist in the harsh conditions of the dry river beds.

From the camp you will take game drives into the park but you can also go on nature walks and night drives on the reserve.

On your way back to Windhoek spend a couple of relaxing nights at OKONJIMA GUEST FARM, home of the Africat Foundation whose aim is to protect and rehabilitate Namibian cheetah and leopard populations, threatened by local farmers.

Run by the Hanssen family, you will stay in a uniquely styled thatched bungalow, the canvas front of which can be opened up giving you panoramic views of the bush.

Complete the drive back to Windhoek, drop off the car and fly home.

Ultimate Experiences in Namibia and Botswana

Light aircraft flights and road transfers can replace parts or all of the self-drive nature of this itinerary.  Maybe incorporate a Skeleton Coast flying safari or a few nights spent far north at the remote Serra Cafema, an amazing camp located in a lush oasis surrounded by sand dunes and within one of the world’s driest deserts.  Instead of returning home from Windhoek, fly direct to Cape Town for a sophisticated end to the holiday.
