Tented room at Pom Pom Camp Okavango Delta BotswanaFly deep into the OKAVANGO DELTA to a private concession on the western boundary of the Moremi Game Reserve, an area rich in wildlife and with prolific birdlife. From Pom Pom Camp game viewing along palm-fringed channels, lagoons and the islands is by mokoro, boat and vehicle. The attractively designed camp has nine spacious safaris tents under thatched roofs, one of which can accommodate four people.

Fly on to Kasane in the north of the country where the lawns of Chobe Safari Lodge extend down to the banks of the Chobe River. Each Safari Room has a private patio with views of the river. The property shares a border with CHOBE NATIONAL PARK, Elephants in Chobe National Park Botswana (Chobe Safari Lodge)renowned for its vast herds of elephant and buffalo. As well as taking traditional early morning or afternoon game drives into the park, you can take a picnic lunch and go exploring for a full or half day. Game viewing can also be by boat on the river. Maybe have your guide position the boat and use the lodge’s fishing equipment to try your luck for a tigerfish or bream while watching crocodile, hippo, elephant, buffalo and antelope interact.

It takes only about an hour and a half to drive across the border into Zimbabwe and to the Victoria Falls Hotel. This old-style colonial hotel is the closest to VICTORIA FALLS themselves which are within easy walking distance, as is the thriving and busy town where all the ‘adrenaline’ activities can be arranged such as white water rafting and bungy jumping as well as more sedate ones like elephant back and horse-riding safaris. The Falls can also be viewed from the air on a “Flight of Angels” by plane, helicopter or even microlight!

Tent at Somalisa Camp Hwange National Park ZimbabweAnother transfer on a good road will take you into the heart of HWANGE NATIONAL PARK, a magnificent area with a variety of terrain resulting in very rewarding game viewing. The water hole in front of Somalisa Camp is overlooked by a hide and you will be almost within touching distance of elephants as they drink! Guided walks and traditional game drives are lead by passionate guides who will share their knowledge and love of the bush with you.

The camp has breathtaking views of the savannah plains from its location on an acacia island on the edge of an ancient seasonal flood plain. While this is an authentic bush camp, the six tents and the main area are all elegantly furnished and it is a wonderful spot in which to relax.

Camp Amalinda Matopas National Park ZimbabweYour last stop on this amazing safari is to the south of Bulawayo in the MATOBO HILLS, an area of spectacular granite masses known as whalebacks and castle kopjes. Thousands of years ago the !San bushmen recorded their lives on the walls of caves and on the granite surfaces and the whole area is now held in reverential awe by the local communities. The wooded valleys and hills of the MATOPAS NATIONAL PARK support diverse flora, prolific birdlife and some game – both black and white rhino can be tracked on foot and there is a high concentration of leopard.

Within the park and cleverly tucked away in an ancient bushman cave, Camp Amalinda nestles amongst huge boulders. Views from the nine individually thatched rooms, the lounge and dining room are exceptional and even the bar and sun loungers by the large pool have views over a waterhole and down the valley. Take time to enjoy the mystical spirituality of the Matobo Hills and a soothing massage in the Heritage Spa!

and what about?

The elegant colonial building that was Meikles Hotel when it first opened almost 100 years ago may have given way to a more modern design but Mr Meikle's original commitment to the highest possible standard of product and service has not changed. If you would like your itinerary to route through Harare, there is no finer place to stay with smartly-turned out, professional and warmly welcoming staff, the smiles and efficiency, the meticulous attention to detail, the furnishings and ambience, and the grand piano being quietly played to guests relaxing over coffee and cakes…
