Leaving
London in the evening, you will arrive for lunch at Shinde
Camp the next day, on the northern edge of the permanent
waters of the OKAVANGO DELTA and just outside
the Moremi Reserve. The benefit of this location is the variety
of options for game viewing including game drives by day and
after dark, mokoro (dug out canoe), walking and motor boat
trips. There is also excellent fishing!
The main building of the camp is on split-level raised decks
in the canopy of ancient jackalberry, water fig and knobthorn
trees. The eight traditional safari-style tents all have exceptional
views over the delta.
Next
you will fly north to another small, luxurious tented camp,
Selinda, situated in the private reserve
of the same name that straddles both the Okavango Delta and
the Linyanti waterways and savannahs. The reserve is a diverse
area which follows the course of the Selinda Spillway, a river
like no other in that it can flow in either direction, depending
on where the water levels are the lowest.
Traditional vehicle safaris, night drives and walks are all
available here and, because of the short grass plains, the
chance of spotting cheetah, wild dog and lion is high. There
is also an impressive elephant population.
To
gently wean you off the bush before the sophisticated elegance
that awaits you in Mauritius, spend a night at Ten
Bompas within easy reach of the airport in JOHANNESBURG.
Each private suite is individually decorated and is complete
with its own ‘steam room’ bathroom.
Perfect for a romantic Indian Ocean respite, you will enjoy
the friendly and relaxed atmosphere at Paradise Cove
Hotel, a fine property at the northern end of the
island overlooking a lagoon and the Indian Ocean.
It
is the smallest five star hotel on MAURITIUS
and the only one with a private beach. It offers an excellent
selection of water sports, including a dive centre, and there
also are two flood lit tennis courts. Make time for a catamaran
cruise and snorkelling at Gabriel Isle before packing your
bags and flying home.
