From
Mfuwe Airport, a game drive will take you deep into the heart
of the SOUTH LUANGWA NATIONAL PARK to Kaingo,
one of two camps built and run by Derek Shenton and his wife
Juliet. They provide a really authentic African game-viewing
experience with very personalised service.
The camp has six well appointed chalets and a centrally
located open-sided sitting room, a dining area, library and
Kaingo's renowned thousand year old lead-wood bar. There is
also a wonderful wooden deck built out over the river making
a relaxing vantage point to view game coming down to drink,
basking hippos, aquatic birds, crocodiles fishing, and daily
elephant crossings.
The
varied terrain around camp includes a picturesque lagoon,
one of the largest ebony forests in the Park and a grassland
plain that teems with wildlife. In addition to game drives
and walks, Kaingo also has elephant and hippo hides close
to camp for incredible close-up encounters and great photographic
opportunities. Another hide is set up on the river in early
September opposite the carmine bee-eater colonies.
Game viewing will continue as you transfer south through
the Park to a prime remote river location. At Chamilandu
Bushcamp the creatively designed tree-house chalets
are set on two metre-high stilts giving wonderful views over
the Luangwa river and the Chindeni Hills. This might be a
bush camp but you will still find every comfort.
In one of the top walking areas, a series of ox-bow lakes
attract a variety of animal and birdlife and game drives are
also offered should you prefer.
Take
a scenic flight into the LOWER ZAMBEZI NATIONAL PARK
to spend three nights soaking up the beauty of the river and
park from Sausage Tree Camp. There are six
originally designed Bedouin tented rooms and the dining room,
library tent and riverside viewing deck offer stylish comfort.
For
the length of your stay, you will be assigned your own guide
to accompany you on walking safaris, game drives by day and
night and scenic boat trips. This stretch of river is also
particularly good to cast a fly for tigerfish!
A short flight away on the UPPER ZAMBEZI,
just above the Victoria Falls, is Tongabezi,
a lodge that combines exclusity with romance. The cottage
rooms have private river views and are positioned under shady
ebony trees.
In addition to visiting the FALLS and the
craft markets in the town of Livingstone, you can take boat
trips on the river, canoe, fish and go on game drives to MOSI
O TUNYA NATIONAL PARK. White water rafting, bungee
jumping, helicopter and microlight flights, horse riding and
elephant back safaris are also available.
