Your safari begins in the Selous, Africa's largest game reserve, for a true bush experience.

Stay at BEHO BEHO, a luxury camp from which to explore the surrounding Reserve, whether by open safari vehicle, on foot or in a boat.  The joy of this camp is the experienced guides who will tailor make your stay, ensuring you use your time here exactly as you want to.

The individual stone and thatched cottages are superb and the sitting room, dining rooms, bar and the pool are all designed for post-safari relaxation.

After four nights, move on to the Ruaha, one of Tanzania's most remote and least visited national parks. Here we have chosen MWAGUSI SAFARI CAMP.

Each spacious tent is on its own wooden platform in a private location on the riverbank.  Dry for most for the year, the river bed is a frequently used route by the game which is found in this lovely, unspoilt park.  The dining room and bar are cool and airy and there is a comfortable reading banda.

The immensely rich marine life and the fact that the island is little known attracted us to Mafia.

POLE POLE, whose name means 'slowly slowly' in Swahili, is a wonderful place to unwind before returning home.

The accommodation is in simple wooden bungalows set under the palm trees in grounds which slope down to the white sand beach. 

There is an excellent dive centre for scuba enthusiasts and fantastic snorkelling for those who prefer to stay on the surface.

Other Tanzanian Destinations

Northern Tanzania & Pemba

Add western Tanzania to this itinerary with a visit to Mahale Mountain National Park, bordering Lake Tanganyika, home to chimpanzees and colobus monkeys.  An alternative to Mafia Island would be to head south to the Quirimbas Archipelago Marine National Park off the northern coast of Mozambique for a few days at Quilálea Lodge on its own private island.
